Legends of the Golden Sparrow

Engineering Final Year Project. Meant to teach history to school students.

This game follows a timeline of Pre-Independent India and its significant events that shaped our history today. The game events are covered sequentially. The game has multiple levels used to depict multiple historic personalities where the student will be controlling the main character which will cycle between First Person and Third Person View as per the gameplay demand.
The game has various gameplay aspects which differ as per the levels/objective in the game, such as Stealth, Run, Fight.
A brief module of the game will display the area of influence of the protagonist at the time and his contributions towards the people under his rule. Once the student completes a specific level he will be directed to a cut-scene which will narrate the events of the story. At the end of video, the student will have to answer a quiz, which will be based on current level. On solving the quiz successfully s/he will be unlocking and playing the next level.

The game can be broken down into three main parts:-

  • Cut-Scenes - To provide facts and background about the historic events and set the context for players to get into the story.
  • Gameplay - To engage the players and make them feel involved in the story.
  • Quiz - To validate the learnings from the level.

This project won the first prize for its technical poster presentation in the IT Colloquium held at St. Francis Institute of Technology.

The project was highly appreciated by all the departments and department heads of the institute, owing to the success of the project and many other attributes like being the class representative of three consecutive years I was awarded as Best Student Of The Year among all the departments. The award was given to me at the Annual Day by the Director of the Institute himself.

Future : I am working on a revamp of this game where I am building it again from scratch with an intention to publish it on Playstore and Steam as an Indie-Game. Addressing and fixing the problems in the earlier version of the game such as lag, some bugs, making the gameplay and cutscenes even more engaging.
